Reading a book I DNF’d: A Court of Thorns and Roses
To understand all the Instagram memes, I gave a second chance to A Court of Thorns and Roses. It’s the only book I’ve DNF’d. Why? I know what I like. It’s NOT YA romantasy. What happened the first time? I listened to the audiobook. When a wolf creature bursts through your door to get you to come with him because ”I have land”, I lost it. I still don’t know what was so funny about it. Well, some books are better read than listened to. So after waiting 5 months in the library queue (damn these books are popular!) I gave ACOTAR another chance. Here are my disorganized thoughts while reading it. Spoilers, obviously.
Well, I am entertained. Sometimes I laugh because of the writing. But I am entertained.
Now, I’m a bit disappointed in these high fae guys, I’m getting serious Twilight/The Vampire Diaries flashbacks here, with a side of Wolverine (Tamlin, what the hell?). Not my cup of tea.
WHY would ANYONE fall in love with Tamlin when Lucien is RIGHT THERE? I mean sure, I like long-haired blond guys too but… Lucien! The guy is perfect *chef’s kiss*
I hope Lucien doesn’t turn out to be evil.
I’m reading this book surprisingly fast. I think it’s several reasons. 1. I’m on a mini vacation with nothing else to do. 2. This book is easy to read and not too emotionally heavy (looking at you, Robin Hobb) 3. There are 16 people in the library queue waiting to read this book, so I want to be fast.
A magical spring orgy for basically environmental causes. Nice. That’s less vampire and more fae.
Feyre, if two powerful beings tell you to stay in your room for your safety, STAY IN YOUR ROOM. Stuff something in your ears if the drums are too tempting. Gahd.
Feasted, that’s an interesting word choice.
Hahaha I KNEW Nesta was going to be cool, even though I still don’t give two shits about what happens to most of these characters.
Ah the riddle, that people laughed at for being way too easy. I get it Freyre, you’re in a panic, and I didn’t get it either, I’m BAD at riddles. I’d battle a thousand giant mudwormthings over putting people’s lives at risk over one wrong word.
Oh poor Lucien. Just leave the guy be, PLEASE.
Rhysand is going to be a Thing, that I know from spoilers. Why? That I don’t know. I’m still here going
Was it worth giving another try? Yes. I was entertained. In my opinion, that’s enough. There are so many different things that can make a book good. I will be reading more of the series in hopes of more Lucien.
What are your thoughts on ACOTAR? If you’ve not read it, what made you give a book you DNF’d a second chance?
